Gamaliel affiliates to members of Congress: “Immigrants are as American as apple pie…and rice and beans!”

Gamaliel affiliates and supporters of Complete Inclusive Immigration Reform and the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 across the country joined together on Friday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 6 to tell their members of Congress that immigrants are as American as apple pie…and rice and beans!

Members of Quad Cities Interfaith, WISDOM, SOPHIA (Waukesha, WI), Casa Esther, Faith Coalition for the Common Good, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, Gamaliel of Metro Chicago and the Gamaliel National Staff visited their members of Congress’ local offices to deliver apple pies and rice and beans, complete with stickers and fliers in support of the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Congresswoman Lucy McBath (D-Georgia), Congressman David Scott (D-Georgia), Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL), Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Congressman Mike D. Quigley (D-IL), Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI), Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), Congressman Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), Congressman Josh Hawley (R-Missouri), and Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-Missouri) were all called upon by Gamaliel representatives.

The idea for the action was initially proposed by members of Asamblea de Derechos Civiles in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Complete Inclusive Immigration Reform is a list of demands compiled by Gamaliel’s Civil Rights of Immigrants Campaign (CRI). The list was sent with a letter to President Joe Biden after his inauguration. Learn more about CRI and Complete Inclusive Immigration Reform here.
