We not only have a very important election coming soon, but we are at a pivotal moment in the history of our country and our world. There is a serious clash of values, worldview, and priorities happening, and we are right in the middle of it. What do we really mean when we talk about “justice?” Is the “beloved community” that includes every human being something to be strived for, or are doomed to live in a world that deems some people’s lives to be less valuable than others?
In Gamaliel we talk about the “Three Faces of Power.” If we are going to be agents of transformation, we need to build a powerful community. We need to win some real changes in policies and systems. And, we need to change the Narrative — the way we talk and think about each other, especially those who are seen as “other,” including people caught in the system of conviction and incarceration.
On Friday, we will talk about our message as Gamaliel; we will talk about why we need every one of us to be involved in the effort to ensure that everyone votes in this election, and we will talk about a Gamaliel-wide commitment to pray for our country as we approach November.
