Ntosake
Gamaliel's Signature Leadership Development Program for Women
The word Ntosake comes from a South African dialect that translates, "She who walks with lions," or "She who carries her own things."
In this current political and social climate, women and girls—particularly those of color—are forced to navigate increasingly blatant misogyny and gender oppression. Now more than ever, it is critical for the Gamaliel Network to grow and enhance its women’s leadership development training program, Ntosake.
Currently, our Ntosake curriculum centers on developing “power women” who: a) create and live into a vision for a future in which women develop and raise their public voices; b) model public and political roles that dismantle the current dominant narrative about women; c) build communities across lines of race and class; and d) create pathways of change. As we move forward, we must expand Ntosake to:
- Reach and train more women, particularly younger women and women of color;
- Add curricular focus on intersectionality;
- Deepen and broaden the Ntosake mentoring component;
- Prepare more women for roles in elected, public service; and
- Build strategic partnerships with external organizations and individuals who share our agenda and values.
