The Trump Administration has proposed a new rule that would reshape and severely limit the asylum system that is part of current immigration law in this country. Under the current system, individuals may come to the U.S. seeking protection because they have suffered persecution or feat that they will suffer persecution as a result of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, and/or political opinion.
