Join Gamaliel ED, Ana Garcia-Ashley, for Save Public Transit Rally, August 5

Please join Gamaliel Executive Director, Ana Garcia-Ashley, for the “Save Public Transit Rally” scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at 1:00 p.m. CT (2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT).  Ana will moderate this important event sponsored by Emergency Campaign for Transit Justice, Riders Alliance NY, Transportation for America, and Alliance for a Just Society.  You must register to participate in the rally.

As many of you are aware, COVID-19 has impacted transit all across this country, resulting in significant financial crises for transit systems of all sizes.  In the spring, many systems received a one-time infusion of much-needed support from Congress—money that was used to keep transit workers employed, to provide essential workers with access to their workplaces, and to modify or equip vehicles to facilitate social distancing and other safety procedures.

With coronavirus cases on the rise in at least three dozen states, the financial support provided by Congress is drying up.  Conservative calculations indicate that public transit systems across the country need $32 billion in federal funding just to keep operating through next year.

It is critical that we act together and now to secure the funding to keep our transit systems, which are vital to our economy and communities, running.  That is the purpose of tomorrow’s rally—to call on Congress to Save Public Transit!

Register now to join Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Representatives Chuy Garcia (D-IL) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY) together with transit riders, and representatives of transit systems from around the country for the national Save Public Transit Rally, Wednesday, August 5, at 1:00 p.m. CT (2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT).

Together, we can save public transit!

Best,

Cynthia Jarrold, Gamaliel National Policy Director
