We stand at a critical, pivotal moment in our nation’s history. Very much of what happens to our “justice” system and what happens to communities of color and low-income white people will depend on the November 3 election. As a 501(c)3 organization, we in Gamaliel cannot endorse candidates, but we sure can work to ensure that everyone votes. As other forces seek to take away voting rights and to make voting difficult, we need to do everything we can to get every eligible voter to the polls, and to continue the fight for everyone to have the right to participate in choosing our leadership.
On Friday, we will share best practices and ideas about what each of us can do in the final 10 days before the election. We will focus on:
- “Relational Voter” programs (formal and informal)
- Get Out the Vote efforts (canvassing, phone calls, rides to the polls, etc.)
- Social Media
Then, we will talk about some of the things we are planning in Gamaliel for AFTER the election. There is a lot of uncertainty about what will happen if vote counting goes slowly, if someone tries to prematurely declare victory, or if there is some sort of unrest. We will talk on Friday about some ways that we will be prepared to be a voice of sanity and calm.
Finally, we’ll set the stage for the next steps—how we will continue to strengthen our advocacy agenda for Transformational Justice in the new reality that will take shape after the election.
Please plan to join us!
