Join us for a Decarceration Virtual Town Hall
Join me, along with leaders and organizers from across the Gamaliel Network, for a Decarceration Virtual Town Hall, as we continue our fight to reduce the number of people being held in our prisons, jails, and detention centers during the coronavirus pandemic. The town hall, scheduled for Thursday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT), will feature a presentation by Nicole Porter, Director of Advocacy at The Sentencing Project.
Nicole will provide an overview of what is happening with Decarceration around the country, as well as her reflections on best practices, effective models, and opportunities for successful decarceration. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a breakout session by selecting from one of the following areas of focus: compassionate release; immigrant detention; juvenile detention; technical parole violations/revocations; or pre-trial/cash bail.
You have two ways to participate in the town hall.
- To join via Zoom, register in advance using this link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Zoom participation is limited to the first 100 people to join the meeting.
- You may also participate via Facebook Livestream at facebook.com/gamalielnetwork. Individuals joining via Facebook will not have the ability to participate in or view the20-minute breakout sessions; however they will be able to indicate their area of interest so that they can receive information in the coming weeks about that particular area.
In this time of emergency, we must take aggressive and immediate steps to lower the risk and the consequences of a disastrous outbreak of COVID-19 in jails, prisons, and detention centers. Plan to be part of this critical town hall on Thursday, and continue to reach out to your electeds urging them to act IMMEDIATELY to Decarcerate!
In solidarity!
