Leaders from the Quad Cities and other midwestern states to meet with presidential candidates in People’s Caucus
Quad Cities Interfaith (QCI), an affiliate of the Gamaliel Network, as well as other Gamaliel affiliates in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, will host “The People’s Caucus: Vote Truth to Power” on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at North High School in Davenport, Iowa.
“The People’s Caucus” is designed to provide ordinary people who are doing extraordinary work in their communities with the opportunity to engage presidential candidates on the issues that impact their lives. Rev. Dr. John Welch, chair of the Gamaliel Board of Directors, will moderate the discussion with candidates. Issues covered at the caucus include: mass incarceration/criminal justice reform, immigration, environmental justice, and more.
“The voices of ordinary people have been ignored far too long. Presidential candidates need to hear that we have very real concerns about how the racist and inhumane policies and rhetoric of the last three years will continue to impact our families and communities and the structures of society . . . that the economy is not working for many of us,” said Rev. Norma Patterson, President of Gamaliel of Illinois and Iowa, “and we need to hear thoughtful and honest answers about how they will respond to these problems if elected.”
Because of impeachment proceedings, QCI has not received confirmation from a number of U.S. Senators who are running for president. If you would like for them to confirm their participation in “The People’s Caucus,” please use the link below to tag them and make your voice heard!
